Senior Sessions

This is the perfect time of year to talk about Senior portrait sessions!
I remember when I got my Senior pictures taken. (Um, almost EIGHT years ago. What?!) I was really excited because I'd never really had a professional session done before. I picked out some cute outfits, I brought my guitar. And honestly, I liked about 2 of the pictures. Partly, because I was a vain 17 year old. And partly because we just sort of did everything wrong!
So today, we're going to focus on Senior photography sessions & how to get the best out of your shoot!
The first thing to think about is TIMING. The first big mistake I made was getting my pictures done in the Fall. (Actually I think it was even late summer, before school even started.) I just wanted to get them out of the way, but by the time I was ready to send out graduation announcements, I had actually changed quite a bit from when the pictures were done!
Although I know sometimes spring sports or vacations can get in the way, I highly recommend waiting until Spring to get your pictures taken. And on that note, don't wait too long! Most great photographers are really busy come Spring, so it never hurts to book early and reserve a spot.
In the Spring you have the option of beautiful spring locations!

The second thing to think about is clothing choices. Many photographers will offer multiple locations and the option of outfit changes for your session, so take advantage of that when you can! Do you have a letterman jacket to show off? Can you do a more formal outfit, and then a more casual one?
And while we're on the subject of clothing: bright colors are always best! Most people think black is slimming, but wearing all black in photos can be very dull and really wash you out. And don't ever wear clothing with words across the front, or something that could be cut off and look strange in pictures.

Location will also be very important to your shoot. Generally your photographer will have a whole list of options for you, but keep on the lookout for fun, unique places that will make your shoot stand out from the everyday train-track photos. (Don't take pictures on train tracks. Seriously.)

Lastly, and most importantly, choose your photographer wisely! My biggest mistake was choosing a photographer who I didn't know and was never able to see any of her work beforehand. Her pictures were fine, but not my style at all. It's easy to find a Facebook page or website for photographers- look through their photos and if you can say "I want a picture just like THAT", then you can be pretty well assured you will get photos you love!
And of course, you can't go wrong choosing Anndee Fonnesbeck Photography. ;)
